On March 2, 1921 - the Village of Colonie was incorporated. The
first Board of Trustees meeting was held four weeks later at the Colonie Village schoolhouse at 8:00 p.m, Wednesday, March 30, 1921, with the Mayor, Charles H. Collins, presiding over the Board of Trustees. That night the Village government borrowed $500 for the purpose of defraying expenses of the incorporation, created the office of Police Justice, set a tax rate of $3.00 per $1,000 assessed valuation, established the first Village budget at $1285, and the Village was in business. BENEFIT BREAKFAST A SUCCESS!!!
On Saturday, November 5th, a benefit breakfast was held at the Village of Colonie Family Recreation Center to help out those impacted by Hurricane Katrina, and to support youth programs at the Family Recreation Center.
The event was conceived, coordinated and chaired by Jamie Ritz, a Youth and Family Services employee. With over 200 hundred people attending the breakfast, more than $1300 was raised. According to Jamie, “we are sending half of the money to the Manilow Fund, and they will match that amount to benefit the hurricane relief efforts. The rest of the money will be used for programs and supplies to benefit the children at the Village of Colonie Family Recreation Center.” More...
